Warranty information and coverage for all brands

Every mattress LA Mattress Store sells is backed by the manufacturer's warranty (typically 10 years on premium beds, up to 25 years on select brands). This page explains what warranties cover, what voids them, and how to file a claim. Separate from the manufacturer warranty, every mattress is also backed by our own 120-night Love Your Bed Guarantee — a comfort exchange covering the "this isn't the right feel for my body" case the manufacturer warranty doesn't.

Manufacturer warranty vs comfort exchange

These cover different things and many shoppers confuse them. Quick reference:

Coverage Manufacturer warranty 120-night comfort exchange
What it covers Defects in materials or workmanship "It isn't comfortable for me"
Typical term 10 years (up to 25 on Harvest, 20 on Diamond) 120 nights from delivery
What you do File a claim with proof (sag depth, photos) Call us, swap for any other mattress
What’s required Original purchase receipt + supported frame 30+ night break-in, no stains
Cost to you Generally zero on approved claim Price difference only if upgrading
Who handles it Manufacturer (we help file) LA Mattress Store directly

What a mattress warranty covers

Mattress warranties from major brands all cover the same general defect categories. The thresholds vary by brand and price tier:

  • Body impressions deeper than the manufacturer's threshold under normal use. The threshold is typically 0.75” to 1.5” depending on brand; the warranty card states the exact figure. Measured with the mattress unweighted, on a flat surface, using a straight edge.
  • Broken coils or springs in innerspring and hybrid models, where a coil pokes through the cover or fails structurally.
  • Seam or stitching defects — split seams, separating panels, or failure of the quilting under normal use.
  • Foam delamination in memory foam and latex models — layers separating from each other or pulling apart.
  • Defective handles (when present) and structural border failures.

What warranties DON'T cover

  • Comfort preference or "I don't like the feel" — that's what the 120-night comfort exchange is for.
  • Normal softening over time (this is wear, not a defect — even premium foam softens about 10–15% in the first few years).
  • Mattresses with visible stains, burns, tears, or signs of misuse. Use a mattress protector from night one to keep the warranty valid.
  • Damage from removing law tags ("Do not remove under penalty of law" — those tags are how the manufacturer traces the warranty).
  • Mattresses on unsupported foundations — most warranties require a rigid foundation or a slatted bed frame with slats no more than 3" apart. A sagging box spring or wire bed frame voids most warranties.
  • Mattresses sold "as-is", floor sample, or clearance — these are sold with warranty waived, and the receipt indicates the waived status.
  • Second-hand mattresses (warranties are non-transferable for nearly every brand).

How to file a warranty claim

  1. Identify the issue. Photograph the defect (visible sag, broken coil, separated seam, etc.). For sag, lay a straight edge across the mattress with no weight on it and photograph the gap.
  2. Locate your purchase records. Original receipt or order email. The warranty is non-transferable so we need to confirm you're the original purchaser.
  3. Contact us. Call (800) 218-3578 or email orders.lamattress@gmail.com with photos and order number. We do an initial review on our end before escalating to the brand.
  4. Manufacturer review. We submit your claim to the brand. Most manufacturers do a photo-based or in-home inspection within 2–3 weeks of submission.
  5. Resolution. Approved claims result in repair, replacement, or replacement credit (most brands replace rather than repair on mattresses 3+ years old). We coordinate the swap including delivery and old-mattress pickup.

How to keep your warranty valid

  • Use a mattress protector from night one. A waterproof zippered protector is $30–60 and is the single biggest factor in protecting warranty eligibility. Stains void claims for every major brand.
  • Use a supported foundation. Check your warranty card for the specific frame requirement; the wrong base voids the warranty even if the mattress itself fails.
  • Rotate quarterly (head-to-foot, every 3 months) on no-flip mattresses. Some brands let you skip this; the warranty card states the rotation cadence.
  • Don't remove law tags. The white tag sewn to the side has the manufacturing serial number used to trace the warranty.
  • Keep your receipt permanently. The warranty is tied to the original purchaser; without a receipt the brand won't process a claim.
  • Don't jump on the bed (the warranty actually mentions this) or store heavy objects on it.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the warranty on most mattresses?

10 years for premium brands (Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, Stearns & Foster). Some premium models offer longer: Diamond 20 years, Harvest organic 25 years. Most warranties are "non-prorated" for the first part of the term and "prorated" afterwards, meaning later-life claims may require a partial payment.

How is sag depth measured?

Remove all sheets and bedding. Lay a straight edge (a yardstick or rigid level) flat across the mattress in the impression area, with the mattress completely unweighted. Measure the gap between the straight edge and the mattress surface at the deepest point. If the gap exceeds the brand's threshold (typically 1.5”), it qualifies. Some brands require the measurement be witnessed by an inspector.

Is the warranty void if I rotate or don't rotate the mattress?

Most no-flip mattresses (which is nearly all modern mattresses) require quarterly rotation — head-to-foot — for the warranty to remain valid. Check the warranty card; we'll show you the rotation cadence at delivery.

Do I need to use a specific bed frame to keep the warranty valid?

Yes for most brands — typically a rigid foundation or a slatted frame with slats no more than 3” apart (so the mattress is fully supported). Adjustable bases are warranty-compatible with most modern mattresses; sagging box springs are not. Ask in-store and we'll match a compatible foundation.

Does the warranty cover stains or damage?

No — stains, burns, tears, or damage from misuse are not covered, and a stained mattress will be denied for inspection. Use a mattress protector from day one to keep the warranty valid.

Does the warranty transfer to a new owner if I sell the mattress?

No — every major mattress warranty is non-transferable. The brand requires the claim to come from the original purchaser, verified against the original receipt. This is one reason resale mattresses are deeply discounted: the warranty doesn't follow the mattress.

What's the difference between a warranty claim and the 120-night comfort exchange?

The manufacturer warranty covers defects (sagging beyond threshold, broken coils, seam failure) — "this is broken." Our 120-night Love Your Bed Guarantee covers comfort (too firm, too soft, sleeping hot) — "this isn't right for my body." Different process, different timing, different outcomes.

How long does a warranty claim take to resolve?

Typically 3–6 weeks end-to-end. Submission and initial review take 1–2 weeks; manufacturer inspection (photo-based or in-home) adds 1–2 weeks; replacement delivery (if approved) takes another 1–3 weeks depending on stock and build time. We push every claim and keep you updated weekly.
