Who a twin is built for.
The twin is purpose-built for single sleepers in rooms where space matters. Here are the five groups who get the most value from the 38″ × 75″ footprint.
Kids and growing children
At 38" wide, a twin gives a child their own full sleep surface - compact enough for most kids’ rooms while providing the support growing spines need from toddler years through pre-teen.
Teenagers up to 6'1"
At 75" long, a standard twin accommodates most teenagers comfortably. If your teen is already over 6′1″, consider a Twin XL (80" long) for the extra 5 inches of length.
Bunk beds and lofts
Standard bunk bed frames are sized for a twin mattress. The compact footprint fits without overhang, and low-profile twin mattresses (6-8") work safely on top bunks with guardrails.
Guest rooms and home offices
A twin is an efficient use of smaller guest rooms. Leaves floor space for a desk or dresser while providing a comfortable sleep surface for visiting family and friends.
Dorm rooms
Most college dorm beds take a standard twin or Twin XL. Bringing your own mattress instead of sleeping on a thin institutional pad is one of the most impactful dorm upgrades you can make.
