How the 120-night exchange works
- Sleep on it for at least 30 nights. A new mattress needs a real break-in period — most people need two to four weeks for their body to adapt to a different feel. The 30-night minimum gives the bed a fair chance.
- Within 120 nights of delivery, contact us. Call (800) 218-3578, email orders.lamattress@gmail.com, or stop into any of our 5 LA showrooms. Tell us what isn't working — too firm, too soft, sleeping hot, motion transfer — and we'll talk through the replacement.
- We schedule the swap. Our team picks up your original mattress and delivers + sets up the replacement — usually in a single appointment. White-glove logistics, no extra charge.
- Pay only the difference. If the replacement costs more, you pay the difference. If it costs less, we refund the difference back to the original payment method. Same financing terms apply on the new bed.

What's not covered
- Mattress toppers, pillows, sheets, foundations, and adjustable bases — only the mattress itself qualifies for the comfort exchange.
- Mattresses showing visible stains, damage, or excessive wear. We need to recycle the original, and California recycling partners reject soiled mattresses. Use a mattress protector (we recommend one with every purchase) to keep your exchange option intact.
- Clearance items marked "as-is" or "floor sample" — these have reduced pricing because the comfort exchange has already been waived. The product page and your receipt both indicate when this applies.

Why we offer this
We sleep on the same mattresses we sell. We've learned the way a bed feels in a 10-minute showroom test isn't always the way it feels after 30 nights of real sleep — your body settles in, your sleep partner has opinions, the room temperature changes the foam's responsiveness. The 120-night exchange takes that risk off the table.
The math is also fair: we'd rather absorb the logistics of one exchange than have a customer stuck on the wrong mattress. Every customer who exchanges goes on to recommend us. Every customer who feels stuck never comes back.
Tips to make the exchange smooth
- Use a mattress protector from night one. Stains void the exchange (CA recycling won't accept soiled mattresses). A waterproof protector under your fitted sheet is $30–60 and pays for itself the first time you spill water on the bed. Ask us at delivery — we'll grab one off the shelf.
- Give it at least 30 days. The single most common reason for an exchange is jumping to a verdict too early. Memory foam takes two weeks to fully soften to your body. Innerspring tops take a week to break in.
- Keep your receipt or order email. Lookup is by email or phone, but having the order number speeds the call.
- Tell us what's not working, specifically. "Too firm" gets us to the right replacement faster than "I don't like it." The more specific, the better the swap.
Frequently asked questions
What's the minimum sleep period before I can exchange?
30 nights. A new mattress needs time to break in and your body needs time to adjust — most exchange decisions made in the first two weeks reverse themselves by week four. We hold customers to the 30-night minimum specifically because it's a better outcome for them.
Can I exchange more than once?
The Love Your Bed Guarantee covers one exchange per purchase. If the second mattress isn't right either, contact us — we'll work with you, but it's case-by-case rather than a blanket guarantee. Spend a few minutes in our showrooms with our staff or take the 2-minute sleep quiz before your first purchase to narrow the field, and one exchange should be enough.
What if the replacement costs more or less than the original?
You pay the difference (if it costs more) or we refund the difference (if it costs less). If you used financing, the new balance gets applied to the existing loan at the same terms — no second application, no second credit check.
Do I need to keep the original packaging?
No. Our delivery team brings packaging for the return on swap day. The original tags and packaging aren't required for the exchange.
Does the guarantee apply to floor-sample or clearance mattresses?
No. Floor samples and "as-is" clearance items are priced lower precisely because the comfort exchange has been waived. The discount reflects that trade-off, and the product page and your receipt both flag the exchange status before checkout.
What if my mattress has a defect rather than a comfort issue?
Manufacturer defects (sagging beyond manufacturer thresholds, broken coils, foam delamination) are covered separately by the brand's warranty — typically 10 years. We help you file the claim. The comfort exchange is for "this isn't my body's right feel"; the manufacturer warranty is for "this is broken."
Can I exchange a mattress I bought online for one in your showroom?

How fast does the exchange happen?
Usually 1–3 days from the call. Custom-order replacements (Chattam & Wells handcrafted, special-order Stearns & Foster Reserve) take 1–3 weeks to build before swap day — we'll quote the timeline when you choose the replacement.
