The right bed frame does three jobs: it supports your mattress evenly so the warranty stays valid, it sets the height and look of the bedroom, and it decides what your bed can do — from under-bed storage to full adjustability. Our bed frame collection covers platform bed frames, metal bed frames, panel beds with a headboard and footboard, and adjustable bed bases, in every standard size from twin XL through queen and king bed frames up to California king. At LA Mattress Stores, you can see them assembled in person at any of our five Los Angeles showrooms.
Usually not. A box spring exists to give an innerspring mattress a flexible foundation and extra height. Platform bed frames and slatted designs (with slats no more than about 3 inches apart) support modern memory foam and hybrid mattresses directly. If you prefer the height or your mattress warranty calls for one, pair a rail-style metal bed frame with a matching foundation from our foundations collection instead.
Frames are sized to the mattress: twin (38″ × 75″), twin XL, full, queen (60″ × 80″), king (76″ × 80″), and California king (72″ × 84″). Queen bed frames are the most common choice for couples; king bed frames and Cal king suit master bedrooms with more floor space. Guest rooms usually do best with a full or queen. If you're between sizes, our mattress size chart breaks down every dimension in feet and inches, and any showroom consultant can confirm what fits your room.
Memory foam, latex, and hybrid mattresses all work on platform and slatted frames. Innerspring mattresses generally want a solid deck or a foundation. Mattress types differ in weight too — a king hybrid plus sleepers can exceed 600 lb, so check the frame's weight rating.
Usually yes — most rail and platform frames include standard headboard brackets. Bring the bolt pattern or a photo to the showroom and we'll match it.

What you put under your mattress matters as much as the mattress itself — the wrong foundation can void a mattress warranty, cause premature sagging, or make a brand-new bed feel like a worn-out one. The foundations on this page are matched to every mattress we sell.
The three foundation types. Platform bed (slatted base, no box spring needed — most modern beds); traditional box spring (recommended for innerspring mattresses on metal frames); and low-profile foundation (5–8" tall instead of the standard 9–12", to lower the overall bed height when stacking with a pillow-top mattress).
Slat spacing matters. If you have a slatted platform frame, the gap between slats should be 3" or less for foam and hybrid mattresses, 4" or less for innerspring. Wider gaps cause premature comfort-layer sag (and void most warranties). Bunkie boards solve the problem by adding a flat plywood layer on top of wide slats.
Adjustable-base compatibility. Any mattress that bends without damage (most foams, hybrids, and many latex builds) pairs with an adjustable base — see the adjustable beds collection. The base replaces the foundation entirely; no box spring needed. Free white-glove delivery and assembly across Los Angeles.
It depends on the frame. Platform frames have built-in slat or panel support, so no box spring is needed — the mattress sits directly on the frame. Traditional metal frames and some bed frames do need a foundation or box spring underneath. Each product page notes what it requires; if you are unsure, tell us your mattress and we will confirm before delivery.
For foam and hybrid mattresses, keep slat gaps to 3 inches or less; for innerspring, 4 inches or less. Wider gaps let the mattress sag between slats and can void the mattress warranty. If a frame has wide slats, a bunkie board adds a flat supportive layer on top — we stock those too.
Our frames come in Twin through California King. Match the frame size to your mattress size — a Queen frame fits a Queen mattress. Adjustable-base-compatible frames are noted on the product page. See our mattress sizes guide at mattress size guide for exact dimensions.
