Mattress Care

How to Care for Your Chattam & Wells

A simple rotation routine keeps your mattress performing at its best for years.

1
Rotate every 3–6 monthsTurn the mattress 180° (head to foot). This distributes wear evenly across the full sleep surface and prevents body impressions from forming in one spot.
2
Use a proper foundationChattam & Wells mattresses perform best on a solid foundation or platform bed with slats no more than 3" apart. This maintains the integrity of the coil system and keeps the warranty valid.
3
Protect natural fibersWe recommend a quality mattress protector to preserve the natural cotton, wool, and silk comfort layers. This extends the lifespan of the materials and keeps the mattress feeling fresh.
4
Allow break-in timeNatural fiber comfort layers take 4–6 weeks to fully conform to your body. The mattress will feel different on day 1 vs day 30 — give it time before making a final judgment.
Rotate Every 3–6 Months

Head to foot, same side up. Set a calendar reminder — it takes 5 minutes and significantly extends your mattress life.

What is Hand-Tufting?

Almost nobody does this anymore. Here's why Chattam & Wells still does — and why it matters.

What It Is

Heavy-duty thread is passed through the entire depth of the mattress — from top button to bottom button — and pulled tight. This locks all comfort layers together from the inside out.

Why It Matters

Without tufting, comfort layers are glued or stitched — they can shift, bunch, and migrate over time. Tufting prevents this permanently. The mattress feels and performs the same years later as it did on day one.

Why Nobody Else Does It

Hand-tufting is extremely labor-intensive — it requires skilled craftspeople and adds significant production time. Modern manufacturers eliminated it to reduce costs. Chattam & Wells considers it non-negotiable.

The Result

A mattress that maintains its structure and feel for decades. Combined with double-sided construction, Chattam & Wells represents the longest-lasting option in our entire lineup.

Natural Fiber Comfort Layers

No synthetic foam shortcuts. Real materials that breathe, regulate temperature, and improve with age.

Cotton

Breathable, natural, and durable. Cotton quilted into the comfort layers provides a crisp, cool sleep surface that synthetic alternatives can't match.

Merino Wool

Naturally moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating. Wool keeps you cool in summer, warm in winter — ideal for the variable LA climate.

Silk

Genuine silk fibers in select models add an ultra-soft, naturally temperature-neutral surface feel that no synthetic material can replicate.

Chattam & Wells Questions Answered

From our sleep specialists at LA Mattress Store.

Yes — we recommend rotating your Chattam & Wells mattress 180 degrees (head to foot) every 3 to 6 months. This distributes body weight wear evenly across the full sleep surface, prevents deep impressions from forming in one spot, and extends the life of the comfort layers. It's one of the simplest things you can do to maintain your mattress long-term.
