Can’t sleep? Pump up the sleep jams

From heartbreak and terrible work days to weddings and working out, the power of music is always by our side. Sweet lullabies have been rocking us to sleep since infancy – Rock A Bye Baby, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and, our personal favorite, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. In fact, studies show soothing melodies and lyrics help us relax and fall asleep faster. What’s your favorite nighttime soundtrack? Wait, did you say you don’t have a nighttime playlist?

Time to put sleep in the passenger seat and drive to sweet dreams with a soothing, bedtime playlist.

Bedtime music is a matter of personal taste and it’s much different than what you listen to when you work out or need a pick-me-up. Jose Colon, M.D., author of The Sleep Diet: A Novel Approach to Insomnia says, “If you listen to certain artists or songs when you’re trying to stay alert, you’re associating that music with alertness.” Look for songs that slow your heart rate, which will also slow down your brain activity and allow sleep to follow. .

Before you turn on the tunes for sleep, follow these 3 steps:
