Better Sleep Month

Better Sleep Month

A whole month devoted to better sleep? Yes please!

May is all about flowers and garden parties and weddings – and we can’t forget Mother’s Day too. But it’s also the one month of the year devoted to learning new ways to get a better night’s sleep. Considering how sleep deprived many of us are, this is a cause we happily support.

At Restonic, the supporting dreams company, we believe that better days start with better mornings – and you need a good night’s sleep to get both. We’ve been selling mattresses for more than 75 years but we know sleep is a complicated puzzle – and your mattress only one piece. To help you find your better sleep this month, we’ve found some powerful online resources to help.

The Better Sleep Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the importance of sleep and a healthy sleep environment, provides consumers with a smorgasbord of information during the month. At the end of this post, you’ll see details on a sweet contest they’re holding for the month of May – this is one you’ll want to enter!

How cherry juice helps you sleep

Researchers from Louisiana State University in the US found that drinking Montmorency tart cherry juice twice a day for two weeks helped increase sleep time by nearly 90 minutes among older adults with insomnia. Researchers believe it’s the unique combination of melatonin and tryptophan in Montmorency tart cherries that is likely contributing to the sleep benefits. Read more on the DailyMail.UK.

Want to sleep better? Stop trying so hard

When insomnia occurs, however, the very act of trying to sleep lowers the likelihood of drifting off. The effort itself and the corresponding inner dialogue that tumbles away in our heads keeps us awake. Over time, themes may emerge such as: “Oh no, it’s happening again. I’m not asleep yet. I won’t get eight hours and I’ll feel awful tomorrow. I’ll be a wreck at work.” Read more on TheGlobe.
