Everything you need to complete your sleep setup — from pillow to mattress protector.
The right accessories protect your mattress, improve sleep hygiene, and extend your investment.
A quality mattress is a significant purchase. A waterproof protector creates a barrier against spills, sweat, and stains — keeping your mattress clean and your warranty intact. Most mattress warranties are voided by visible stains.
We shed skin cells and sweat every night. The right bedding — washed regularly — keeps allergens, dust mites, and bacteria from accumulating. Encasements and high-quality protectors are essential for allergy sufferers.
The right pillow keeps your spine aligned. The right sheets regulate temperature. The right topper adjusts firmness to match your preference. Accessories are the finishing layer that makes your entire sleep system work.
A mattress protector paired with regular rotation can add years to a mattress's lifespan. Encasements prevent bed bug infestations that would otherwise require full mattress replacement. Small accessories, large long-term savings.
From our sleep specialists at LA Mattress Store.
At minimum: a mattress protector (waterproof, to preserve your warranty and hygiene), a fitted sheet set, and at least one pillow per sleeper. If your new mattress is firmer or softer than you expected, a topper can bridge the gap without requiring an exchange. If you're prone to allergies, an encasement under the protector adds another barrier against dust mites and allergens. We carry everything you need at our LA showrooms and can put together a full bedding package when you buy your mattress.
Yes — for two reasons. First, most mattress warranties are voided by stains. Even a small spill can disqualify your coverage, which on a $2,000+ mattress is a significant risk. Second, without a protector, sweat, skin cells, and oils penetrate the mattress over time, creating an ideal environment for dust mites and bacteria. A waterproof protector costs $49–$150 and extends your mattress's lifespan considerably. It's the single most important bedding accessory you can buy.
Thread count matters less than material and weave. A 400-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheet will outperform a 1,000-thread-count polyester blend. For cotton sheets, 300–500 thread count is the sweet spot — high enough to be soft and durable, low enough to breathe. Percale weave (crisp, cool) is better for hot sleepers; sateen weave (smooth, warm) is better for cold sleepers. Bamboo sheets have lower thread counts but are naturally temperature-regulating and very soft. Come into any of our LA locations and we can help you choose based on your specific sleep temperature.
Most pillows should be replaced every 1–2 years, though it depends on material. Down and down-alternative pillows compress fastest — typically needing replacement within 12–18 months. Memory foam and latex pillows last 2–3 years or longer. The test: fold your pillow in half. If it doesn't spring back to its original shape, it's no longer providing support. A flat, lumpy, or stained pillow is also a hygiene issue. If you're waking up with neck or shoulder pain that wasn't there before, your pillow is likely overdue for replacement.
Side sleepers need a pillow with a higher loft (thickness) to fill the gap between the head and shoulder. The ideal pillow for side sleepers is firm to medium-firm, keeps the neck in a neutral position, and doesn't compress flat under the weight of the head. Memory foam and latex pillows are generally best — they hold their shape throughout the night. Adjustable-fill pillows let you dial in the exact loft. Down pillows tend to be too soft for most side sleepers and require frequent fluffing. If you sleep on your side and wake with neck pain, a low-loft or soft pillow is usually the culprit.
