King Mattress in Monrovia
Monrovia was at McDonald's predecessor's home. In 1937, Patrick McDonald opened Huntington Drive (Route 66) bread shop near the old Monroe airport of Horom (hamburgers ten cents and orange juice, "you can drink all" five cents). he stayed there until 1940, when he and his two sons, Morris and Richard, moved 64km east of San Bernardino at the corner of West 14th Street and 1398 North Street, renaming it McDonald's. Whitton Sinclair's house, where activist and writer Whitton Sinclair lives, is in Monrovia and is a national historical monument. In 1995, Monrovia won the US City Award from the National Civil League. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has only 35.5 square kilometers (13.7 square miles). Of these, 13.6 square miles (35 km2) are land and 0.1 square m (0.26 km2) of water (0.79%).
